Foster The People
Event on 2012-06-16 19:00:00
Few bands have been able to have a top 10 album as quickly as indie pop up-and-comers Foster the People. With only one album out, Torches, Foster the People has captured the attention of audiences around the world with their hit single, "Pumped Up Kicks." Their success is all the more surprising considering the song deals with a school shooting, but the catchy dance sound that's indicative of the entire album has struck a favorable chord with critics and fans. Those that haven't yet heard Foster the People can catch them on their international tour dates in 2011; the ones that haven't sold out yet, anyway.

Foster the People was formed by Mark Foster in 2009, after years of being kicked around by the Los Angeles music scene. After working as a jingle writer and working on original compositions for a number of years, Foster began combining his favorite musical elements into the sound you hear today. He began posting his songs on the mp3 blog The Hype Machine and eventually began scoring small tour dates, with accompaniment by drummer Mark Pontius and bassist Cubbie Fink. The band was originally called Foster & the People, but was changed after audiences kept mishearing it as Foster the People. The popularity of Foster the People's music online combined with a breakout tour date at South by Southwest led to a record deal and the release of Torches in May 2011. The album quickly broke into the top 10 and shot to #1 of the Alternative charts.

As Torches races towards platinum certification, Foster the People are headed out on many, many tour dates in 2011. Concert dates are already underway and, while many tour dates are already sold out, there are still plenty of chances to catch Foster the People in late summer/early fall. The band is making it's way through tour dates in Texas and Arizona before ending up in California in early July. On July 14, Foster the People will begin concert dates in Europe, including performances at the Melt Festival in Grafenhainichen, Germany and the Lattitude Festival in Suffolk, UK. Foster the people will play tour dates in Australia in late July before touring the US agin from August to October. Foster the People will conclude their 2011 tour dates in the UK in late November, so buy your tickets from Eventful soon before the entire tour is sold out.
Tokyo Police Club

Tokyo Police Club started by accident one day in the ordinary suburb of Newmarket when Greg, Josh, Dave, and Graham decided that they missed playing music together, their previous band having broken up several months before. The four gathered in Josh's basement, plugging in instruments and making up songs almost at random, with no goal but to recapture the magic that they felt making music together. By the time summer came, TPC had began quietly to play shows in the Toronto area, shows at which the very few people in attendance seemed impressed by what they saw. The band seemed likely to end here, with the various members preparing to go their separate ways in the fall, when fate intervened in the form of an invitation to play the Pop Montreal festival. Packing their instruments and girlfriends into a tiny university residence room, TPC spent a week immersed in music, spending days lazily wandering the streets of Montreal and nights rehearsing loudly in the tiniest of spaces, and topping it off in style with a sold out show that saw the band play for the first time to an audience that was actually interested. A few weeks later, all four had agreed that it was time to break their mother's hearts and pursue that most elusive of pipe dreams: a career in the music business.

The boys got straight to business, playing a series of Toronto shows, and earning a reputation for live shows that were exuberant, lively, and unrestrained. In January, the very day that Dave returned for good from university, Tokyo Police Club signed up with esteemed Toronto label Paperbag Records to release their debut EP in Canada. In April, A Lesson in Crime was released, and the band has spent the months since on the road, bringing their optimistic brand of wide-eyed post-pop to audiences across Canada and the U.S., and making many new friends along the way.

So what exactly is Tokyo Police Club? Perhaps EYE Weekly summed it up best when they wrote "[Tokyo Police Club] are undeniably catchy and raw, marrying danceable hooks with talk of robot masters and global emergencies, providing an upbeat soundtrack to our troubled times." Personally, however, I prefer Exclaim's proclamation that "somehow, the deeply innocuous subdivisions of Newmarket, Ontario have hatched a four-headed beast of tunefulness."

Armin van Buuren

Armin van Buuren is once more lord of the Trance and the king of the dance floor, taking the No. 1 spot in the DJ Mag Top 100 for the third year running. Being the official World's Most Popular DJ is just one of his many achievements, but the driving force behind his success is an overriding passion for dance music. Armin van Buuren was born in Leiden, the Netherlands on December 25, 1976. He finished high school in 1995, and left for college to study law. While studying law, his interest for making music blossomed, and he began working as a DJ in a local club called Nexus. As his musical career began to take off, he temporarily put his law degree on hold, however, he did complete his law degree in 2004 via Oxford University. The final year of his course was inevitably stretched as he juggled his studies with his increasingly hectic schedule; his rise to fame included lots of productions and remixes, as well as playing out to packed clubs every weekend. It took him three years to graduate, but his determination made him succeed. Armin indulged his passion for music from a young age. He spent all the money he earned on records. When he was 10, his mother won a computer, gaining Armin's interest. "So as a little nerdy kid I was writing my own basic programs, and learnt about the technology from there." He progressed from making low profile mix tapes for friends to higher profile mixes when he discovered experimenting with different sequences on his computer through his uncle. "I was so stunned by what I saw him doing on the computer, that I got addicted to creating music right there and then! "I loved Dance music immediately – this great rebellious sound that was so different". Armin cites electronic pioneer Jean Michel Jarre as a major influence, as well as Dutch producer Ben Liebrand, who later mentored him in his mixing and producing. His "Universal Religion" series has been going strong ever since the first edition in 2004. Every edition is a live recording, straight from the epicenter of Dance in summer: Club Amnesia in Ibiza. Every summer, Armin holds residency in this renowned club on the party isle. As the club fills with Dance lovers from all over the world, a special, atmosphere takes over, these special moments of pure Trance bliss, Armin captures onto his "Universal Religion" albums. Latest "Universal Religion 4" is filled with exclusive tracks and remixes, in a tight mix, live recorded at the sacred club. Armin has always had his own studio and worked alone in the beginning of his career. Since the release of his third studio album "Imagine" in 2008 he has been working with Benno de Goeij of Rank1 on all his productions and remixes. Since 1995, he has released many tracks on different labels with increasing success. His first big success was "Blue Fear" at the age of 19. This 'Euro Trance blueprint' made it into the UK Chart. "Communication" was released on the same label, and had a huge impact on Ibiza in the summer of 1999. After being signed to AM PM Records, it busted into the UK Singles Chart at #18 in 2000. Early 1999 Armin started the Armind label together with United Recordings. First release, "Gig One" was well received. Follow up "Touch Me", under the alias Rising Star, was signed to Ministry of Sound UK, while "Free" was signed to R&S Records. Under the Gaia monniker he released "4 Elements" on Captivating Sounds, a sub-label of Warner Brothers. Teaming up with Tiësto, two new projects saw life; under the guise Major League "Wonder Where You Are?" was released on Black Hole Recordings while "Eternity" was released via Armind under the alias Alibi. "Eternity" gained worldwide club and chart success and was signed to Paul van Dyk's Vandit Records. Another major collaboration, this time with Ferry Corsten, resulted in the classic and very successful Trancer "Exhale". In 2000, Armin started his own Armin van Buuren compilation series. He managed to find a balance between Progressive, Techno and Trance. First "A State of Trance" compilation, released in 2000, it sold more than 10,000 copies and contains his infamous remix of Moogwai's, "Viola". The "A State Of Trance" compilations have won many awards and continue to lead the Trance fans in the right direction with a fresh and exclusive selection of the hottest tracks. Second compilation "Basic Instinct" saw its release early 2001. Third compilation "In Motion" was released August 2001 with 4th comp "Transparence", hitting the streets in 2002. In 2003 the "76" compilation saw light with Ultra Records releasing in USA and Canada. 1 BIOGRAPHY (continued) In 2008 his artist album titled 'Imagine' entered the Dutch Album Top 100 Chart at no. 1; the first time a Dance producer accomplished such a feat in the history of Dutch music. The first single taken from the album, "Going Wrong", debuted on his A State Of Trance radio show. The single sees the collaboration of Armin van Buuren with hot German producer Shah and singer Chris Jones. 'Imagine' debuted at #4 on the US Billboard's Top Electronic Albums Chart. Video of second single "In and Out of Love", featuring Sharon den Adel from world renowned Goth rockers Within Temptation, achieved more than 35 million views on YouTube. The album also spawned two more singles, "Unforgivable" featuring Jaren, and "Fine Without You", a collaboration with Jennifer Rene. On the remix front While the remix offers flood in, Armin only takes on tracks that he really loves. He has remixed the theme for the cult TV series 24 as well as tracks for the likes of Motorcycle, The Killers, BT and Moogwai, amongst others. He uses exactly the same criteria for his compilations, meaning that every release from Armin on his long-running Armind label is a bona fide stormer. Armin Only An all-night dance event featuring a nine hour set by the man himself . The event consists of various genres of Dance music (but most predominantly Trance), light, laser and firework shows and supporting acts of singers/vocalists. Sold-out Armin Only shows in 2005 and 2006 created eager anticipation of the third edition, which kicked off in Utrecht The Netherlands in 2008; over 16,000 fans attended and were enthralled by Armin's set. The theme of the night was 'Imagine', described by Armin as "the celebration of our sensations both in life and in club land." Fans all around the world needed not to despair as Armin took the event to Romania, Poland, Belgium, Australia and USA. On New Year's Eve 2008 Armin managed to draw 45,000 fans to the event at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Promotion of his album "Imagine" has been a prominent concept with the 2008 Armin Only Tour and as such applying the 5 concepts of Imagination (Vision, Scent, Touch, Sound, Emotion) to his sets. The next Armin Only events are in the works for 2010 and 2011. A State Of Trance radio show In March 2001, he started his own radio show on ID&T Radio. In this weekly two-hour show, entitled 'A State of Trance', he plays the latest popular Trance tracks. His show and the artists he features are popularized by publishing the artists and track titles on his website. This radio-show/website combination has proven popular internationally. When ID&T Radio changed genres in 2004, van Buuren left and took A State of Trance with him. It is now a weekly feature on appr. 40 worldwide FM radio stations. A complete list of stations that broadcast A State of Trance can be found at the ASOT section of Armin's website. Internationally, the show attracts more than 26 million listeners a week, making it the most popular radio show in the world. In 2008 the 400th edition was celebrated on a large scale, listeners and fans were able to experience the show for 72 hours, live from 3 different countries. The first broadcast was aired from Club Butan in Wuppertal Germany on Thursday April 16th, the second on Friday April 17th from Club Air in Birmingham, U.K., and the third and last one was closed down in style on Saturday April 18th in the massive Maas Silo in Rotterdam. Armin personally appeared at all locations. Armada Music Amsterdam based Armada Music was founded in June 2003 by Armin van Buuren, Maykel Piron and David Lewis. "Armada" was formed by utilizing the first two letters in each of the founding members' names. The highly successful label currently has 19 different sub-labels (including Armind) representing many different types of electronic music. 2 BIOGRAPHY (continued) New Media On the road biography 'Armin Only' Dutch author Coen Bom, has followed Armin around the world for over a year. Focusing on a very important year in Armin's musical career, the one in which he's crowned to 'Number 1 DJ of the World'. Coen gives you a full report of Armin's many gigs, backstage adventures and journeys across the globe. With exclusive interviews, photo's and much more. Awards & Accolades With a hectic schedule packed to the rafters with headline slots at major clubs and festivals across the globe this is a man truly at the top of his game. His productions have all made a huge impact and quickly gain worldwide acclaim. He is a dedicated Trance lover, but isn't imprisoned by a single genre, saying "What makes Trance work so well is that it doesn't stick to one style, and can incorporate electro, minimal, whatever it likes." The main ingredient to Armin's life will always be music. "This is just what I really want," he says. "It's not just love for music, it's my passion. It goes beyond liking, and beyond a hobby, it's about a way of living. Music is essential to my life". November 2009 arminvanbuuren.com astateoftrance.com youtube.com/arminvanbuuren In October 2009, Armin had the premiere of launching the first full music DVD as an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The complete DVD of Armin's 'Armin Only' concert in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, is now available as app. After downloading the app, users can see the full live registration on their iPhone or iPod Touch. In January 2008, he was given the 'Buma Cultuur Pop Award', the most prestigious Dutch music award followed by being voted 'Best Trance Artist' in the Beatport Music Awards. Today is Mother’s Day in the United States. It occurred just the other day in England… and will occur around the globe at various times all year long as millions of people make a point of honoring mother and making this day special for her. Those of us whose mother has passed on will take time this day for remembrance… turning this into a day of bittersweet joy and sorrow. There will be tears… but there will be smiles, too, as we recall every aspect of Mom with all the memories we cherish so. Yes, there most assuredly will be smiles, too… for Mom, even if gone, still has the power to lighten our lives and soothe us, just as she did so often once upon a time…

Anna Jarvis and the creation of Mother’s Day, 1914.

There have, of course, been mothers’ days as long as there have been mothers. Kind-hearted fathers and grateful children undoubtedly saw to that… but one woman wanted more for mothers than a casual, occasional compliment. Her name was Anna Jarvis and she is the reason you are dropping by your mom’s today, your arms full of spring flowers and a myriad of affectionate tokens.

Anna Jarvis was born May 1, 1864 in Webster, Taylor County, West Virginia. She was the ninth of eleven children born to Ann Marie and Granville Jarvis. From childhood Anna idolized her mother, and she often heard her say that she hoped someone one day would establish a memorial for all mothers, living and dead.

Anna always recalled one particular incident that drove home her mother’s unceasing message. This incident occurred during a class prayer given by Mrs. Jarvis in Anna’s receptive presence. Mrs. Jarvis’ lesson was on “Mothers of the Bible”. She closed the lesson with the prayer “I hope that someone, sometime will found a memorial mothers day commemorating her for the matchless service she renders to humanity in every field of life. She is entitled to it.”

Anna was just 12 years old… and not only did she never forget; she dedicated her life to achieving her mother’s desire. We can now see the contours of this story. Mrs. Jarvis, kept perpetually pregnant, laboring under a mountain of never- ending work, with a husband who never understood all she did and how much he relied upon her… and a daughter completely receptive to her mother’s urgent plea for recognition, assistance, and above all else — love. Mrs. Ann Marie Jarvis poured it all into her daughter’s dutiful ears… and whatever her resentments, disappointments and moments of chagrin… here at least she was abundantly rewarded. Her darling Anna saw to that…

After her mother’s death on May 9, 1905, Anna, now living with siblings Claude and Lillie, began her life’s work, to create a day that would fulfill her mother’s fervid desire. Fueled by love and the image of her overworked, under loved (but never by Anna) mother… Anna put her active pen to paper, determined to achieve her goal of establishing a nationwide observance of Mother’s Day. Nothing was going to stop her, and so from love came the focused, unceasing activity that moves mountains. She bombarded hundreds of legislators, executives, and businessmen on both state and national levels.

Everyone was polite, muttering general words of support… but, despite her efforts and her skills as a notable and motivating speaker, Anna Jarvis was making no progress. Then one of the greatest marketers in history, John Wanamaker, merchant prince, entrepreneur, philanthropist heard Anna and saw at once that her idea was good for Wanmaker’s, good for business, good for America, and good for mothers everywhere. It was a win-win situation all round…

With the inventive genius, power, influence and energy of John Wanamaker (1838-1922) behind her, Anna Jarvis and her idea moved onwards and upwards at incredible speed. On May 10, 1908 15,000 folks eager to Honor Thy Mother showed up at Wanamaker’s Store Auditorium in Philadelphia to hear Anna Jarvis speak. 10,000 of them had to be turned away for lack of room… It was a magnificent event… thereafter success followed success, Wanamaker saw to that; he was a dynamo of a man, success his birthright.

By 1909, 45 states, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico observed Mother’s Day. People by the millions wore the white and red carnations the movement had adopted as a visible means of showing that the wearer loved Mother and supported the cause. President Wilson proclaimed the first national Mother’s Day in 1914. Everyone was happy now; a great goal had been achieved… everyone, that is, but Anna Jarvis.

Every time a florist sold a bouquet… every time a husband hard-pressed for time and with worries of his own bought a card… every time anyone made a buck off her Mother’s Day, Anna Jarvis winced. And so as the number of participants grew into the millions, Jarvis who should have been the happiest of all became the most miserable. This isn’t at all what she had in mind for mothers… or the memory of her mother.

So began the sad decline of Anna Jarvis, the woman who now proceeded to burn every bridge and sunder her intimate connection to Mother’s Day until with the death of her sister, she was entirely alone… having nothing but memories and the assurance of her mother’s love. And so she went on, bitter, alone, forgotten, neglected until at last she died, November 24, 1948, her mother’s zealous defender until the end…

… but too much so. I like to think that Anna’s mother would have been glad for the card (even if store-bought), for the flowers (even if not picked from your own garden), and the candy you didn’t have time or talent to make… because each is a token of a love which cannot be celebrated too often… the love of mother. And so if your mother is alive today, do something, anything, indicating you care.

And as you are lavishing these gifts on your one and only mother, give a thought to Anna Jarvis and her troubled spirit. She is the reason you have the happy task of turning this otherwise ordinary day into the reassurance your mother requires that yes, resoundingly yes, she was and yet is a good mother, the best of all whatever her faults or limitations. All she really needs is to hear you say so….

Question by IN_LOVE: Mother????
GOODBYE, MOTHER…

A guy shopping in a supermarket noticed a little old lady following him
around. If he stopped, she stopped. Furthermore she kept staring at him.
She finally overtook him at the checkout, and she turned to him and said,
“I
hope I haven’t made you feel ill at ease; it’s just that you look so much
like my late son.”

He answered, “That’s okay.”

“I know it’s silly, but if you’d call out “Good bye,Mom” as I leave the
store, it would make me feel so happy.”

She then went through the checkout, and as she was on her way out of the
store, the man called out, “Goodbye, Mother.” The little old lady waved
and
smiled back at him.

Pleased that he had brought a little sunshine into someone’s day, he went
to
pay for his groceries. “That comes to $ 121.85,” said the clerk

“How come so much. I only bought 5 items.”

The clerk replied, “Yeah, but your Mother said you’d pay for her things,
too.”

_*Do not trust all little Old Ladies!*_

Mother Mathematician Of Our

Mother .. mathematician of our village

Last month, I took my mother to temple to join merit ceremony.
And last week, I took her to a doctor because – no medicine left.
I have talked with my mother a lot while driving and waiting to see the doctor.

My mother gain her reputation on playing the lottery(???).
she didn’t purchase a lot.
but she often secretly play (when her daughter is not present).
She is also well known among those lottery fans in the village.
She like to buy each 50 to 10 Baht
Recently, she win the lottery prize in two-three consecutive periods.

This used to occurred since she brought a little dog to home-on 2-3 years ago.
this time she concluded that it would be right because she brought a puppy to raise a few months ago from the same place.

… And at the beginning of this month she won lottery again a few days after the ceremony merit was ended.

the communication kept going on all the way to the hospital but I still in doubt that how come she picked the cool numbers (???????) from.

So I asked my mother.

Daughter: Did you pick the cool numbers (???????) from your dream, didn’t you?

Mother: No, I got them from the merit ceremony.

Daughter: It’s hard to believe. I saw that figure the amount of merit is not applicable.

Mother: Really?, Don’t you remember the bananas which I brought to the monk.

Mother: Nature of bananas is bent. So It would stand for numbers 9 and 6.

And 96 was the lottery winning numbers. She also added that “I forgot that the total amount of bananas was one hundred if purchased No. 100, I should have won the last 3 digits which is likely to be a lot more money.”

I was surprised by mother’s funny and intelligent in mathematics.

The idea of lottery ( ??? ) goes back a very long way towards ancient times. People of Thailand are very fond of being a gambler themselves. Lottery (
